🔥 Misfits to Missionaries: Becoming Men of Courage, Conviction, and Calling 🔥
What kind of men does God use to change the world?
Not the strongest.
Not the most polished.
Not the ones who “have it all together.”
When Jesus began His ministry, He didn’t recruit religious elites or cultural heroes. He called fishermen, a tax collector, a zealot, doubters, hotheads, and outsiders—ordinary men with rough edges, weak faith, and unfinished stories.
And He changed the world through them.
In Misfits to Missionaries, we will walk through the background and personal stories of the disciples Jesus called—men who were flawed, fearful, impulsive, and often misunderstood, yet transformed through proximity to Christ and obedience to His call.
This series reminds us that God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called.
Through Scripture, hands-on forging, and brotherhood, boys will discover that their weaknesses are not disqualifications, but invitations for God’s power to work through them.
Over these 8 weeks, boys ages 9–14 will forge their own battle axe and—more importantly—learn how to:
• Respond when God calls, even without having all the answers.
• Trade insecurity for identity, learning who they are in Christ.
• Grow from impulsive reactions into disciplined obedience.
• Choose courage over comfort when following Jesus costs something.
• Learn faith through failure, trusting God even after mistakes.
• Walk in humility, knowing leadership begins with servanthood.
• Commit to brotherhood, sharpening one another through challenge.
• Live on mission, understanding that following Jesus changes how we live.
Each week, we’ll explore a different disciple—or pair of disciples—highlighting themes such as Calling, Identity, Courage, Obedience, Faith, Transformation, Brotherhood, and Mission, while connecting their journey to the real-life struggles and questions boys face today.
Just like raw steel must be shaped, refined, and tested before it’s ready for battle, so too must young men be formed through challenge, truth, and purpose.
We would be honored to have your son join us “On the Anvil.”
Together, we’ll discover how Jesus still turns misfits into men on mission—and how God uses ordinary boys to accomplish extraordinary purposes.
