Forging Through History: From Vikings to the American Frontier
November 3 – December 15
Continue the journey through history as students forge their own Frontier Railroad Knife in this Level 1 blacksmithing class.
Each week, students will develop foundational blacksmithing skills while exploring how weapons, tools, and warfare evolved from the Viking Age through medieval Europe, the Industrial Revolution, and the American frontier. Along the way, we’ll examine the strength of Viking warriors, the precision of medieval archers, the innovation that transformed the modern world, and the grit of the American frontiersman.
Our biblical teaching will continue through the Book of Judges, examining the lives of Jephthah and Samson and the spiritual decline of Israel. Students will discover that physical strength cannot replace obedience, better tools cannot fix the human heart, and true strength begins with dependence on God.
The series concludes by pointing students toward Jesus, the perfect Judge and eternal King. Weapons eventually rust, civilizations rise and fall, and human strength always fails, but Christ reigns forever.
Whether returning or brand new to Anvil, students will leave with foundational blacksmithing skills, a deeper understanding of history, meaningful friendships, and a handcrafted Frontier Railroad Knife they’ll be proud to take home.
Level: 1
Recommended Ages: 9–14ish
No prior blacksmithing experience is required. All tools, materials, and safety equipment are provided.
